Why we exist
What happens to the poor?
Health Leads Initiative was founded in January 2019 by a group of young people led by Dr Charles Nwachukwu.
During his medical internship in Nigeria, Dr Nwachukwu saw a troubling pattern: people with some financial means could usually find a way to get care when they needed it, while many others could not.
It raised a question that continues to drive our work: What happens to the poor?
HLI exists to help answer that question by working alongside communities, local health workers, and partners to make healthcare more accessible, regardless of income or background.
